Can you tell me more about the documents included in Deluxe PhotoJobsDatabase?
Our Deluxe edition of PhotoJobsDatabase includes pre-formatted, customizable documents with easy-to-use, guided data entry. With Deluxe PJD, you can interactively manage client info, schedules and documents in the same place.
To create documents, simply follow the template tabs and fields provided in the data entry view and within minutes you can print professional looking documents with your logo and identity.
The document templates included with Deluxe PJD are: estimates, invoices (regular, Past Due, Advance), legal contracts (Assignment, License, Portraiture, Wedding, Event, Videography), property rental contracts, delivery memos, call sheets, model releases, property releases, and fax/email/letter covers. |
Do the documents in Deluxe PhotoJobsDatabase include usage information?
Yes, our Deluxe PhotoJobs Database estimates and invoices have fields for entering usage statements. We've also included a powerful tool that allows you to create a detailed Table of Usage in minutes. This document is an essential roadmap for you and your client to quickly understand the usage parameters for assignment or stock licensing - and goes beyond a simple usage statement. And it contains terminology universally accepted by art buyers and clients. |
I've purchased software in the past that I didn't like. What makes yours better?
Both the Deluxe and Standard editions of Photo Jobs Database were created to be intuitive and easy to use, using modern technology and design. Our software is thoroughly tested before release for functionality and many other factors. While most software companies update their software maybe once a year, in the same time period, we've updated ours three times with added features and functionality! The founders of our company have been a part of the photography industry for over 45 years combined so they understand what is important to photographers and are committed to helping them. They are also good listeners and often make improvements based on customer comments. |
What's the difference between your software and an online list service?
First and foremost our products are software. They are installed on your computer's hard drive and have powerful, advanced tools for the management of your photo business. Second, we include a contact list that doesn't require visiting a server to access. The main 1000 contacts are already entered into the software; our Supplemental Lists are imported from downloads; and you can import/add your own contacts. With both Standard and Deluxe, not only do you have contact information on your desktop, you can instantly print mailing labels, send emails direct from the software, schedule and track your marketing efforts and much more. And, with Deluxe you have the added capability of creating estimates and other essential documents. |
I currently have a Standard edition PhotoJobsDatabase. Can I upgrade to Deluxe?
Yes, you can upgrade to a Deluxe edition from a Standard edition. They are separate products and we offer registered users of our Standard edition a significant price break when purchasing the Deluxe edition. See our Purchase page for details. |
Can you tell me more about the 1,000 contacts that are included with PJD?
Our Deluxe and Standard edition software includes 1000 contacts. This top-notch list includes art buyers, photo editors, art directors, etc. – the people you need to get your work in front of.

The list includes contact name, company name, address, phone numbers, and website address. Approximately 70% also have email addresses. All contacts include a detailed company profile and are classified by the work they do (e.g. house/garden, sports/recreation, automotive, bridal, etc.). Use these searchable, customizable classifications for precision target marketing. In addition, the ad agencies/design firms have a separate section identifying their accounts, and magazines include circulation and frequency data. |
What categories of contacts are in PhotoJobsDatabase?
PhotoJobsDatabase categories cover every type of business: Magazines, Ad/Design/PR firms, Manufacturers & Corporations, Entertainment Companies, and Retailers/Catalog. The 1,000 contacts are almost evenly divided between these categories. You can add to these or to the “Personal & Professional” and “Portraits & Events” categories. In addition, all of the contacts included with PJD have been classified by what they do. For example, a company in the Retailers/Catalog category may also include multiple search criteria such as "apparel/accessories", "children's products" or "gifts & collectibles." |
Do you have other contacts I can purchase besides the 1,000 that come with PJD?
Yes, we currently offer Magazine and Ad Agency Supplemental lists but you must be a registered user of our software to purchase them. See our Supplements page for more details. |
Are the lists updated?
Our main 1,000 and Supplemental Lists are updated 3 times each year – in March, July, and November. The main 1000 update is downloaded from our website for only $29 (the first update is free) and the Supplement List updates are only $10. Think of our dedicated researchers as your personal assistants verifying the information so you don’t have to. See our Updates page for more details. |
Can I import my own contacts into PhotoJobsDatabase or from another source?
Yes, with version 1.2.0 (and higher) you can import up to 9,000 of your own contacts and with all versions you can also manually enter them (total capacity is 10,000.) There are 12 formats that PJD can import. It’s simple – just export your source file into one of these formats for importing into PJD. You have the option of assigning one category to all your records at once or choosing categories for each contact individually.* (See “What are the formats…” below for more information.)

Can I export contacts and my schedule out of PhotoJobsDatabase?
Yes, with version 1.2.0 (and higher), you can export the name, company name, phone numbers, and email address. And, with version 1.5.0, we've added the ability to export the address as well. With one click, the information is exported to one of 12 different formats which is then imported into your PDA or address book for when you’re away from your computer. You can also export your schedule the same way.** (See “What are the formats…” below for more information.)
**NOTE: Mac OSX Leopard users: You will not be able to export contacts and schedules from PJD to Excel. Please note this affects only the export (not import) and only Excel (not 11 other export formats). |

PhotoJobsDatabase imports and exports data in the following formats: Tab-Separated Text (includes ASCII and Mac Address book*), Comma-Separated Text or Value (.csv), SYLK, DIF, WKS, BASIC, Merge, Excel, dBase, FileMaker Pro, XML Data Source, ODBC Data Source.
PhotoJobsDatabase exports schedules into the following formats: Tab-Separated Text, Comma-Separated Text or Value (.csv), SYLK, DIF, WKS, BASIC, Merge, HTML Table, FileMaker Pro, XML, and Excel.**

Does PJD send emails?
Yes, you can send them individually or all at once from the database. Mac users need Mac OSX Mail, Entourage, or Eudora. PC users need Outlook, OutlookExpress, Eudora and any MAPI program. Your email window will pop open automatically with the email addresses in the “blind carbon copy” line (bcc:). If you want to use another program to send your emails, you can easily export the email addresses to that program. See our Policies for more information on using emails and spamming. |
What output options do I have for marketing campaigns?
PhotoJobs Database gives you incredible flexibility in your output so you can easily create your own multi-channel marketing campaigns in a snap. With one click create mailing labels for promo cards, send emails, or print a call sheet. With version 1.2.0 (and higher), you can quickly export contact info to a PDA or another program (see "Can I export contacts..." above.) And with version 1.2.0 (and higher), you can create and save CUSTOMIZED lists, then output them an UNLIMITED number of times. See the next question for more details. |
Can I create customized lists for my marketing?
Yes, with version 1.2.0 (and higher) you can quickly create customized lists and use them for a variety of marketing functions including mailing labels, emails, call sheets, etc. (See "What output options..." above.) For example, let's say you want to target retailers in New York City. With the powerful search filter in PJD, only those contacts fitting that criteria will appear (from the 1000 or your own that you've imported and categorized). Create a name for it such as "NYC retailers" and click Save. It's that simple. You can then retrieve it later and launch an unlimited number of marketing campaigns. |
Can I sync the data between several computers in my studio?
You can use PhotoJobsDatabase on a network, with up to 5 concurrent users. This enables you to keep your contacts and schedules synced. See our System Requirements for more details. |
What if I want to use PJD on my laptop when I’m away from my studio?
If you’re not on a network and you make changes on one computer, you can still transfer contacts and schedules back and forth, using the import features. This method is not recommended for massive amounts of data but is useful if you’ve made some changes to the data on your laptop copy, for instance, and need to update the data on your studio computer. Keep in mind that if you’re not networked, you should only make changes using one computer at a time so there aren’t syncing issues. |
